Assessment of CA Students after 1st & 2nd Year of Practical Training

Attention, please! This notification from ICAI uniformly concerns all CA -Intermediate pass outs under the Revised Scheme of Education and Training. From now on, the Council will be assessing students after completion of the first and second year of articleships.  The test will be conducted online and will contain MCQ based tests. The purpose of both the tests is to exam the learnings of students during the course of practical training. It aims to measure student’s ability to apply subject-specific skills during articleship. 

Details about the test to be conducted by ICAI:

For 1st year students:

Full Marks – 75

Duration – 2 hours

Mandatory [50 marks] – Accounting and Auditing (Including Corporate Law)

Students will be selecting one optional module from the following (each comprising 25 marks):

1. Direct Tax Direct Tax including International Taxation

2. Indirect Tax Indirect Tax

3. Internal Audit Internal Audit

For 2nd year students:

Full Marks – 100

Duration – 3 hours

Mandatory [50 marks] – Accounting and Auditing (Including Corporate Law)

Students will be selecting two optional module from the following (each comprising 25 marks):

1. Direct Tax Direct Tax including International Taxation

2. Indirect Tax Indirect Tax

3. Internal Audit Internal Audit

Students will be assigned grades based on their performance in the assessments as follows:

  1. Students scoring 80% and above will be awarded grade A
  2. Students scoring 60% and above but below 80% will be awarded grade B
  3. Students scoring 40% and above but below 60% will be awarded grade C
  4. Students scoring below 40% will be awarded grade D

The grades scored by students will appear on the final mark sheet. A student can take a re-test maximum two more times to improve grade but they will be charged nominally for reappearing. The best grade out of all the grades scored would be taken for inclusion in the mark sheet.

The first test for both the category of students will be on August 26, 2018. The students who would be completing their 1st/ 2nd year of practical training during the second quarter of 2018, i.e. April/June 2018 would be eligible to appear in these assessments during August-December, 2018. Similarly, the students completing their 1st/ 2nd year during July-September, 2018 would be required to appear in October-December, 2018 quarter and so on.
