CA Foundation 2019 Registration and Eligibility

CA exams have been through major revamp under the revised scheme of syllabus introduced by the ICAI. What earlier used to be CPT, has now become CA-Foundation. In fact, CPT exams will cease to exist after the June 2019 attempt.

CA Foundation exams will be held twice a year, just like CPT, but in May and November instead of June and December. CPT was entirely based on MCQs, CA Foundation exam include both subject and objective papers. Also, CPT had a compulsory study period of 2 months between registration and attempt: For CA Foundation students the minimum study period is 4 months. Moreover, there is a difference between in the eligibility criteria for both the exams.

CA Foundation Eligibility Criteria


In the case of CPT, students could register right after Class 10 exams, but to register for CA Foundation, it is mandatory for students to clear 10+2 Boards or an equivalent exam.

And, also, students will have to ensure that there is a gap of at least 4 months between registration and the attempt.

This is to say that, those students who have cleared their 10+2 Board or an equivalent exam, and want to appear for CA Foundation May 2019 attempt must register themselves on or before 31st December 2018. And, students who are targeting the November 2019 attempt, must register on or before 30th June 2019.


CA Foundation Registration Process


The CA Foundation Registration process is simple and easy. In order to register, students must closely follow the instructions given below:

Step 1: Fill the Application Form online - And, where will you find this application form? On the ICAI official website (www.icai.org). The form will appear under “course registration form” under the ‘students’ tab.

Step 2: Go ahead, fill in your details - The online application form for CA Foundation will require you to fill in certain details like your full name, contact number, e-mail id, gender, date of birth and the like. Once you are done filling the form, cross-check if you have entered the details correctly, and then hit the ‘submit’ button.

Step 3: Wait for OTP verification - Right after hitting the ‘Submit’ button, an OTP will be sent to the phone number and e-mail id that you had put it. Complete the OTP verification process to successfully register yourself for CA Foundation.

Step 4: Make your way to the payment gateway - This is the last step to become eligible for CA Foundation May or November attempt. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen and finish the payment of the fee.

Once the CA Foundation registration fee has been successfully transferred, the system will automatically generate the application form. The CA Foundation Application Form must be duly filled and submitted to the concerned regional office duly within 7 days along with all the required documents.


Documents required for CA Foundation Registration


-          10+2 or equivalent exam Admit Card/ Marksheet, attested copy

-          Latest photograph, self-attested & affixed on the hard copy of the form

-          Proof of Nationality, attested copy (if student is foreigner)

-          Special category certificate (ST/ SC/ OBC or differently abled), attested copy, if applicable

-          Class 10 Admit Card/ Marksheet, indicating candidate’s name and DOB, attested copy


CA Foundation Registration Letter


After a candidate registers for CA Foundation, ICAI issues them a registration letter. The letter is dispatched by post, and may take about a month to reach the candidate. If it is already been more than a month, and you the registration letter has not reached you yet, you can enquire with the regional office.

The CA Foundation Registration letter can also be downloaded online:

-          Click on e-services to find ‘print letter’ under the ‘Member and Students’ head

-          Select registration letter as letter type

-          Select student as candidate type

-          Enter your registration number and date of birth

-          After submitting details, you will be able to take a print out of the letter

Students are advised by ICAI to carry the registration letter along with the admit card. If there is any issue with the admit card, the student carrying registration letter will be permitted to appear in the examination after a few procedures. Also, the registration letter comes handy if you lose your registration number. It helps to confirm registration for the course and re-claim your registration number.

Exam registration is only the first step. To clear the exam, students will have to pull up their socks and start studying soon after completing the registration process.
