CA Foundation Registration And Eligibility

The first attempt for CA Foundation will be in May 2019. CA CPT will be entirely scrapped for the November 2019 attempt.

The ICAI shall start the registration process for the CA Foundation 2019 exam with the Board of Studies. This exam is the gateway to enter the Chartered Accountancy profession.  To be eligible to be able to appear for the foundation exam, the students should be registered with the Board of Studies. It is speculated that the registration with the Board of Studies will start by the first week of February 2019. Students can complete their registration procedures online on the designated website, sdb.icai.org. To complete their registration procedures students will be expected to provide the Board with some Personal details which will have to be further verified by uploading recognized documents.

Who is Eligible?

Candidates who are appearing in 2019 or have passed the Class 12 Board Exams or its equivalent from a recognized board are eligible to register for the CA Foundation Course 2019.

What are the dates for registering for the CA Foundation Exam?

Though final dates are not out, the following dates are being speculated. We will update you with the final dates as soon as notified by the Board of Studies and the official circular is out.

What is the process for the registration?

The registration process for the CA Foundation Exam includes the filling the online form. The procedure is as follows:

Step 1

 Visit the course registration official website – https://sdb.icai.org/stud/defaul.aspx and click on the “New  User Registration” option.

Step 2: 

On this page, you will now find two options, one for new users and another for existing users. Select the appropriate option.

Step 3: 

Now, enter all your details in the denoted spaces such as name, date of birth, gender, email address, mobile number, residential address, etc.

Step 4: 

After filling at the details, click on the “Register” button and submit. This will generate a One Time Password – OTP that will be sent to your registered email ID and mobile number.

Step 5: 

On this page, enter the One Time Password that you have received, click submit and verify your communication credentials.

Step 6: 

Once your verification is done, you need to login using your registered email ID and password.

Step 7: 

Once you login, you will be required to fill in more details such as father’s name, mother’s name, permanent and temporary address, pin codes, any reservation category (if applicable), nationality, etc and click on save.

Step 8: 

Once you have Updated the information, you are now required to upload the scanned images of your passport size photograph, signature and other original documents that have been listed below. Then, click on ‘Save’ and advance to the next step.

Step 9: 

At this step, when all the information has been provided and documents uploaded successfully, you need to pay the prescribed fees. The fees can be paid by choosing one of the multiple ways of online transfer. After the payment of the fees has been successful, the system will generate the application form with a successful transaction message.  You are advised to save it for future reference.

What are the documents required for registering for CA Foundation Exam?

To validate the identity and eligibility of a student, the Board of Studies requires the student to submit some documents. Those documents include:

  1. An attested copy of the of Class 12th examination Admit Card / Mark Sheet that is issued by the respective board.
  2. One recent passport sized colored photograph (affixed on the online registration form)
  3. Proof of Nationality for foreign Students (Attested Copy)
  4. Proof of special category certificate for SC, ST, OBC of differently able ( Attested Copy)
  5. 10th Mark sheet / Admit Card of 10th Class indicating the Name & Date of Birth. (Attested Copy)
  6. The duly signed printout of Online successful registration form.

Does registering for CA Foundation mean I can give my CA Foundation exam?

No. Registering for the CA Foundation course makes you further eligible to register for the exam. You are eligible to re-register for the exam and reappear till you clear the exam up to 3 years after which you shall have to pay a revalidation fee of Rs. 300 or as updated from time to time by the board and revalidate your account. You are also required to fulfill the study period gap between registration for the course and appearing for the exam.

What is the mode and time of exam?

The exam would be conducted twice a year, once in May and then again in November. The exam would be in an offline that is pen and paper mode. There will be a total of 4 subjects, two objective and two subjective with negative marking in the objective papers.
